Bicycle Paths and Multi-Use Facilities

NDOT and Carson City are working together to perpetuate and enhance the non-motorized roadway system in the Freeway area. New multi-use paths along the Freeway will connect to existing facilities, such as bicycle lanes, paths, designated routes, or sidewalks. All new facilities are compatible with the Carson City Bicycle System Plan . Existing bicycle lanes, paths or routes where they cross the Freeway will be perpetuated with the proposed improvements. Sidewalks will be provided to accommodate pedestrian movements.

Phase 1B

A paved multi-use path will be constructed with Phase 1B of the Carson City Freeway. The path will run along the west side of the Freeway between Lompa Lane and College Parkway and Emerson Drive and Broadleaf Lane. Another section (between Hot Springs Road and Emerson Drive) will be opened to traffic when the College Parkway/Hot Springs Road intersection is signalized with future development.

Phase 1B bike path facilities

The multi-use path for the freeway will be similar to this path in Las Vegas although the Carson City path will have native vegetation instead of ornamental landscaping.

Phase 2

The Phase 2A project will provide a 12-foot wide multi-use path on the south side of US 50 East from the western project limit (Humboldt Lane) to the Piñon Plaza driveway, where it converts to a sidewalk. A similar path is constructed on the north side of the roadway during the Phase 1B project. Bike lanes and sidewalks will be provided along Fifth Street, Fairview Drive, Koontz Lane, Clearview Drive and Snyder Avenue. Sidewalks and shoulders will be included with the S. Carson Street Interchange improvements.

As part of the Phase 2A project, the Linear Ditch Park multi-use bicycle and pedestrian path will be extended to the Freeway, travel north parallel to the Freeway on the west side, pass under Fifth Street, cross under the Freeway north of the Fifth Street grade separation and continue along the top of the drainage channel to connect to Carson City's multi-use trail system at Butti Way. The multi-use path will also connect to the City's path that will be extended along Fifth Street.
